The Grill

Terry Scroggins has no formal training as a chef. Heck, the guy used to work as a tow truck driver and auto body man before he became one of the world’s best pro bass anglers.

But food from a grill shared among friends has always been the common thread to relaxation in Terry’s life.

When he’s not on the road fishing, he’s grillin’ on the backporch with his Florida buddies. And along the Bassmater Elite Series tour, Scroggins is often feeding his fellow bass pros.

Over the years he’s invented a number of original recipes to make everything from meat to mushrooms taste better than any way you’ve ever eaten them.

Big Show Ribs

Before I put BBQ sauce on my ribs as they grill, I first add green pepper jelly. As it heats up, it oozes over the entire rack of ribs. It makes your ribs look rich, and the pepper jelly sweetens up your BBQ sauce.

Crab Stuffed Mushrooms

I saw crab stuffing in scallops at the grocery store and thought it’d make great stuffing for my mushroom caps. Man, I was right.

Prep time: 20 minutes
Pre heat over with broiler

Sautéed Mushrooms

I marinate all my steaks in teriyaki sauce, so I figured it only made sense to soak the ‘shrooms in it too.

Prep time: 10 minutes

Tenderloin (filet)

This is all started one night when a bunch of folks were coming over to my house to watch a UFC fight on TV. I wanted to grill ribeyes for them, but the butcher ran out, so I kinda dared myself to grill the tenderloins he had for sale instead – and it’s turned out to be one of the best meats I’ve ever grilled.

Prep time: 40 minutes
Pre-hat grill to 300 with 3 chunks of cherry wood

Crab Stuffed Grouper

In my off time from the professional bass fishing tour, I go grouper fishing in saltwater. I don’t eat largemouth – they’re my co-workers. But I’ll dang sure eat a grouper.

Prep time: 5 minutes
Cook time: 8 minutes
Pre-heat grill on medium heat

Swai Fish

This is a fish that even a world class angler like Gerald Swindle wasn’t familiar with, but it’s become really popular because of its firm, white, flaky texture and most of all – it has just about zero fishy taste. The GMan loves it.

Rib Eye Steaks

Most everybody loves a grilled ribeye, but the real key to making them taste great is to put them in a plastic Hefty bag full of Lawry’s teriyaki sauce and marinate them for a while you’re getting your grill ready and prepping your side dishes.

Prep time 15 minutes
Cook time 15-30 minutes depending on desired temperature
